Is there any maintenance that needs to be done on my slides?
Rubber Seal Maintenance
Clean the seals with soap and water every 3–6 months.
Condition them with a rubber seal protectant (like Thetford Slide Out Seal Conditioner or 303).
Why? Keeps the seals supple, prevents sticking, cracking, and water intrusion.
Lubricate Slide Mechanism
Depending on the type of slide system:
Schwintek (common in Tiffin bedroom slides): Don't over-lubricate. Use a dry lube on the tracks *only if recommended*.
Rack-and-pinion or hydraulic slides (typically large, full-wall): Use a dry slide lube on the moving arms underneath.
Do not use WD-40 or anything that attracts dirt.
Inspect and Clean Slide Roofs
Before bringing slides in, check the top for debris (leaves, sticks, etc.).
If you don’t have slide toppers, you must clean the slide roof manually or risk damaging seals.
Operational Check
Run each slide fully in and out monthly if the RV is in storage.
Listen for unusual noises or hesitation—could be a sign of motor or alignment issues.
Annual Inspection
Check for:
Frame flex or cracking
Hydraulic fluid leaks (if applicable)
Gear wear or motor noise
Interior wall alignment or binding
